Photos and Videos of the Groot Cross-Bow
Bodewes Shipyards has successfully launched Yno 760. It is the first of a series of vessels with a Groot Cross-Bow. The Cross-Bow is an innovating bow shape with wave piercing abilities designed by Groot Ship Design. Cross-Bow Reduces Fuel Consumption
In reference to more conventional bowshapes with bowflare, a vessel with the Groot Cross-Bow has less slamming and will easier maintain its speed. This reduces fuel consumption. Tests in the icetank of HSVA in Hamburg proved the bow being suitable for sailing in ice. With optimized hull lines below the waterline, the vessel requires less installed main engine power when compared to vessels with conventional bow shapes.Integrating the Bow into the Design
The challenge for Yno 760 was to integrate a Cross-Bow in the design and maintain a sufficient length of the cargo holds and cargo volume, based on the knowledge the vessel was going to be equipped with pontoon hatches operated with a hatchcover crane.The pictures in the photo album show the casco being built as well as the launch of Yno 760 into the typical narrow canal, Winschoterdiep, in the northern part of the Netherlands.
The videos of model tests at HSVA and MARIN show the vessel’s behavior in waves, ice and with an open top. In addition, there is a video of the Groot Super Green 8500, that SWZ Maritime reported on in Maand Maritiem (edition 7/8 2011).
