Even without Wings TU Delft Solar Boat Wins World Championships

After losing their hydrofoil two weeks before the World Championships in Monaco, the students of the TU Delft Solar Boat Team still managed to take the title last Saturday. It was the first time the team built a solar-powered boat for the open sea.

Agnieta Habben Jansen with her entry 'Vulnerability Reduction of Distributed Systems' and Niels de Vries with his research titled 'Ammonia as renewable fuel for the maritime industry' have been nominated for this year's Maritime Designer Award. This award is intended for individual designers, PhD students, recent graduates and start-ups who want to bring their work and approach to the fore.

The Dutch have withdrawn their entry for the 36th America's Cup in Auckland, New Zealand, in 2021. The DutchSail team headed up by sailor Simeon Tienpont has not been able to find a main sponsor.

The Maritime Research Institute Netherlands (MARIN) challenged Dutch schoolchildren to design the ship of the future. The result: a container ship in the form of a sailfish with a retractable sail, a frictionless shark skin and a flexible moving tail.

TU Delft Solar Boat Team to Compete without Its 'Wings'

During a test run on the Dutch IJsselmeer, the TU Delft solar boat lost one of its hydrofoils. Despite several diving expeditions, the lost 'wing' was not found. The team has now decided to compete at the World Championships without it.

Sendo Liner, DC Orisant and Bravo Eugenia Contend for KNVTS Ship of the Year Award

Inland navigation vessel Sendo Liner, trailing suction hopper dredger DC Orisant and superyacht Bravo Eugenia will compete for this year's title of KNVTS Ship of the Year. The jury will judge the vessels on design, economics, sustainability and environment, safety and building process.

Three Companies Nominated for Maritime Innovation Award 2019

From seventeen entries, the Maritime Innovation Award jury has selected its three nominees: Conoship with their eConowind unit, Huisman Equipment BV with a new offshore crane design and Value Maritime with a "plug and play" scrubber. The winner will be announced at the Maritime Awards Gala 2019 on 4 November.
