KVNR Nominates Heerema and Dutch Political Parties for Shipping Award

The Royal Association of Netherlands Shipowners (KVNR) has revealed the nominees for the KVNR Shipping Award 2019. The first is Heerema Marine Contractors for a shorepower solution in Rotterdam. The second is perhaps a bit unusual as it is not a maritime organisation: the political parties behind the Merchant Shipping Protection Act.

Even without Wings TU Delft Solar Boat Wins World Championships

After losing their hydrofoil two weeks before the World Championships in Monaco, the students of the TU Delft Solar Boat Team still managed to take the title last Saturday. It was the first time the team built a solar-powered boat for the open sea.

Agnieta Habben Jansen with her entry 'Vulnerability Reduction of Distributed Systems' and Niels de Vries with his research titled 'Ammonia as renewable fuel for the maritime industry' have been nominated for this year's Maritime Designer Award. This award is intended for individual designers, PhD students, recent graduates and start-ups who want to bring their work and approach to the fore.

Sendo Liner, DC Orisant and Bravo Eugenia Contend for KNVTS Ship of the Year Award

Inland navigation vessel Sendo Liner, trailing suction hopper dredger DC Orisant and superyacht Bravo Eugenia will compete for this year's title of KNVTS Ship of the Year. The jury will judge the vessels on design, economics, sustainability and environment, safety and building process.

Three Companies Nominated for Maritime Innovation Award 2019

From seventeen entries, the Maritime Innovation Award jury has selected its three nominees: Conoship with their eConowind unit, Huisman Equipment BV with a new offshore crane design and Value Maritime with a "plug and play" scrubber. The winner will be announced at the Maritime Awards Gala 2019 on 4 November.

European Inventor Award for Dutch Antifouling Solution

The European Patent Office (EPO) has presented Dutch materials scientist Rik Breur with the European Inventor Award 2019 in the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) category. Breur has developed a non-toxic wrap for marine structures and ships that prevents biofouling.

Color Hybrid Wins Skipsrevyen's Ship of the Year Award

Norwegian maritime magazine Skipsrevyen has selected the world’s largest plug-in hybrid vessel, Color Hybrid, as "Ship of the Year 2019". With a battery package of 4.7 MWh, the Color Hybrid can travel 12 nautical miles on battery power alone, and is charged with shore power in Sandefjord.

World Superyacht Awards for Oceanco's Black Pearl and DAR

Both Oceanco's sailing yacht Black Pearl and motor yacht DAR won awards at the World Superyacht Awards 2019. The Black Pearl was voted "Best Sailing Yacht Overall", while the DAR came away with the "Best Motor Yacht of the Year" award.

Dutch Antifouling Wrap Nominated for European Inventor Award

(With video) Dutch materials scientist and inventor Rik Breur developed a non-toxic, self-adhesive antifouling "carpet" for ships and offshore structures. His invention has been nominated for a European Inventor Award 2019 in the "SMEs" category.
